Miena Hamfest

When: 4th December 2010.
Where: Miena community hall; Miena is situated at the Southern end of Tasmania's Great Lake.
What: Held every second year, hosted by the Central Highlands Amateur Radio Club. This is Tasmania's State hamfest, where hams gather to lust after and buy both new and second hand goodies including all the best Yaesu, Icom and Ten-Tec.

There are antennae to die for from local and visiting suppliers from the mainland, together with bundles of surplus and second hand equipment. Some people stay overnight as guests at Dave VK7OB (ex VK7KDO) and Marilyn's VK7FMAZ nearby shack, or camp in the Miena area. There is also hotel accommodation available nearby.

Meet the Voice BBQ

When: 2011 date to be advised. This years has just been held; it was held on Sunday 21st March 2010 at 9.00am
Where: The historic township of Ross about 80k south of Launceston just off the Midland Highway.
What: Face to face meeting of participants in the Sewing Circle net, a great car boot radio and parts sale and a really fun overnight camp.

Every year a large number of hams from all over the State gather at Ross in a beautiful outdoor setting by the river. Members and visitors alike take motor-homes and free-camp, pitch tents, stay at the excellent caravan park only 50m away, or lodge at the local pub.

Many arrive on the previous Friday night to commence celebrations and stay both Friday and Saturday nights.

December Myrtle Park BBQ

When: 2nd Wednesday every December, commencing about 4.00 pm (Wednesday 8th December 2010).
Where: The very beautiful and quiet Myrtle Park camping area beside the pristine and fishable St Patrick's River.
What: Celebrate the end of year meeting & BBQ, camp overnight if you can and try to catch a fish for the Slippery Trout Award.

Hams from all over the north and north-west of the State attend the Myrtle Park BBQ. The surroundings are breathtaking, with adjacent rain-forest and pristine water. Many stay overnight in motor-homes or camp. There is no car-boot sale, just a great BBQ sit-round-the-fire and chat.

Lighthouse Weekend

The annual world-wide Lighthouse Weekend established by the Amateur Radio Lighthouse Society has been very popular with Tasmanian amateurs.

The event is not a contest, but a great opportunity to go portable by "activating" a lighthouse. Previous years have seen the activation of lighthouses all over the state including Bruny Island and Low Head.
