VK7RAA Mt Barrow    -    the Voice of the North.                  [ back to the iPhone page >>

Welcome to Launceston and the magic Mount Barrow repeater VK7RAA which is the heart of NTARC.

The Northern Tasmania Amateur Radio Club membership stands at over 60. It is a lively and active group of people with a diversity of backgrounds, ages and wide ranging interests who meet regularly - not only in pursuit of amateur radio - but also to socialise and enjoy the freedom of Tasmania's outdoors.

BBQs, walking, fishing, mountain climbing, quad bike riding, motor-homing, camping and antenna building sessions are all examples of activities where we happily mix ham radio with the rest of our lives.

The Splat image below is actually 40% larger than shown and if you want to view it in excellent detail, download it. <more...>

The Splat! plot above shows the coverage from the Mt Barrow transmit antenna (nominal elevation 1,400m) down to about 1.5m mobile antenna height. The warmer the colour the better the signal. The radius of the pattern is a software limitation, coverage extends further in many areas eg. Table Cape on the NW coast, North Flinders Island and even parts of Hobart.
