I will start this week with some information that a little birdie, may have told me. It’s about a presentation to
be made very soon at an important event! …and by our very own NTARC member, Nick VK7WW, who
will be revealing a circuit that can give any type of receiver selectivity of 100 Hz, or better, when listening
to CW; and gets rid of all noise/ QRM! So if you are hearing two or three CW signals on the same
frequency, this add-on circuit allow you to select one signal; and that’s all you hear! And…no modifications
to your receiver!
The thought of a single decode with multiple CW signals present on the same frequency, plus noise
reduction and to top it off no modifications to your receiver required! Well that piqued my interest….. But I
guess, like everyone else, I will just have to wait…..As all will be revealed soon!
So if this is now Sunday to you, and you are interested but you haven’t bought tickets to next weekend’s
HAM-E-con yet…..then you had better “Pull your finger out” as I think booking finish today and this is a
must see presentation.
For some reason last Wednesdays technical night seemed to have a much more laid back feel to it, but the
time still disappeared very quickly, as it usually does.
Andrew VK7DW, had his next set of successfully received and decoded images broadcast by Amateur
Radio on the International Space Station, or ARISS.
The SSTV images of series 34 feature the amateur radio equipment installed on the International Space
Station. This certificate, for Series 34, features the six cosmonauts and astronauts that installed the amateur
radio antennas during space-walks. All are pictured with the WA1 antenna before its installation on the
exterior of the Service Module. One of four antennas intended for amateur use. The rear of the certificate is
a good read in its own right, covering the ARISS philosophy and antenna time line, among other
information. As this set of images had been broadcast on the 70 cm band it made it just that little bit harder
than the previous 2m band offerings to capture. This led to a bit of a shallow deep dive into Andrew’s
satellite tracking software and tracking antenna arrays that are more suited to the higher frequencies
involved. Thanks for sharing your technical solutions and achievements.
Colin VK7ZCF, ended up being “press-ganged” into antenna work, although in this case it certainly wasn’t
against his will. He volunteered to conduct multiple sweeps and analysing the results of various antennas
that seemed to have been brought in to the club at the same time, without even planning for a test evening.
An interesting variety with one being a J-Pole made out of 300 Ohm ladder line. Thanks for helping out
Colin.
Ian VK7IH, was deep into sorting out programming and code plug anomalies, ahead of the next JOTA. Yes
I know JOTA is twelve months away but after some of the problems encountered, we may very well need
that amount of time. Hi-Hi On a happier note the DMR handheld programming and trialling seemed to be in
a much better place by the end of the night. However the discussions continued well after ten o’clock, when
we decided we had better call it a night.
Mug Order - yes, we are talking about the white mugs for drinking out of, those that have our club logo on
one side, personalised with your name and call sign on the other. We are placing another order so if you
would like one then please email secretary@ntarc.net to place an order. Please specify what name is to be
printed above the call sign. The final price will be about $15 depending on eventual quantity ordered
As usual pictures will be available on the NTARC Web site under “Blogs” for this broadcast. NTARC Blogs
