Broadcast - 25 May 2025

This week was very light on as far as news was concerned, but we do have one special event on the horizon. Please mark Wednesday night the 11th June on your calendars.

Trevor VK7TB and Eric will be enlightening us with a presentation on the challenges of radio restoration.

This restoration centres on the British Marconi R1155 communications receiver which was commonly used with its associated T1154 transmitter unit. The R1155 was extensively used by the Royal Air Force during World War II, mainly in larger aircraft such as the Lancaster Bomber. From the pre-restoration pictures, one should probably call it the restoration from hell! Not just a replace all capacitors and send it on its way refurbish, but a total strip down back to chassis level. Their endeavours even involved learning the art of vacuum forming plastic covers and re-manufacturing front panels. This journey appears to have been a very dedicated undertaking by Trevor and Eric. Hope to see you there for this “interesting on so many levels” presentation.
