SSTV NET - 21 March 2024

On Thursday night Northern & NW operators were once again able to join the Southern SSTV Net via VK7RJG in the North on Mt. Arthur and VK7RAF in the South. Nearly thirty images were transferred via the state wide linkup that started about 7:30pm.

The various subjects were:

• Contesting in the “John Moyle Memorial Field Day”, a setup on a quiet beach without people or electrical noise

• The Popular Science monthly magazine featuring “propeller powered cars”

• A series of home made “propeller powered cars”

• One of the Cigar Box Guitars shown on a recent REAST DATV Experimenter's Night

• An old PMG/Telecom TV and audio Operations Centre

• The White Alice Communications System or WACS. This was a telecommunication network of 80 radio stations constructed in Alaska during the Cold War. It used tropospheric scatter at 900MHz for over-the-horizon links and microwave links for line-of-sight. The system typically used a 10kW transmitters and two 17 metre reflectors.

Remember Ken VK7KRJ’s and Steve VK7OO’s fully automatic 24/7 monitoring site that allows anyone who has sent an SSTV picture the ability to check them on their pages almost immediately, any time, both South and North Tasmania.
